Ms. Susan Selby
Talent Development Catalyst Teacher |
I am a Charlotte native. Being a Garinger High School graduate, I am proud of the city and the school system in which I grew up. I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in biology in 1998. Then, I decided to go back to school at North Carolina Central University and received a degree in Elementary Education in 2003. I taught first and second grades at Oakhurst Elementary School in CMS for 8 years. During this time I received a masters in Elementary Education at Pfeiffer University and earned my National Board certification in 2008. In 2014 I finished my courses at Queens University and now have my AIG (Academically and Intellectually Gifted) license. At The Paideia Academy at Oakhurst Elementary I taught 8 years, and at Irwin Academic Center LI/TD Magnet SchoolI taught first through third grades for five years, before coming to Eastover as a TD Catalyst teacher.
Some of my career accomplishments are that this is my eighteenth year teaching! I have received the Terrific Teacher Tuesday Award, the Kids Voting Mecklenburg Award, and I have been voted Teacher of the Year four times. My goal for this year is to continue my success as an educator at Eastover by supporting teachers and students as they reach their fullest potential and beyond. Aside from teaching I enjoy running, yoga, reading, trying out new recipes, cheering for the local sports teams, and spending time with my family and friends (including my dog Gumbo and my cat Okra). I am delighted to be working with the Eastover family again this year! |
